Wager Bay

At the same time as the Southampton Island station, one was also in operation at Wager Bay (1900-1904). As opposed to the one at Southampton, which belonged to Scottish interests, the Wager Bay station was the property of the Thomas Luce firm of New Bedford, Connecticut. Throughout its four years of operation, an American named George W. Cleveland managed it. The station conducted small-scale whale hunting and fur trading. Once the station closed and all materials were loaded on the Era (then commanded by Captain Comer) Cleveland went to work for the Scots at the Repulse Bay/Naujaat station.
